EU lifts sanctions against former Ozon Director Shulgin, Russian businessman Berezkin - document

BRUSSELS. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The European Union has lifted sanctions against four Russian citizens, including ESN Group owner Grigory Berezkin and former Ozon General Director Alexander Shulgin, the Official Journal of the EU said on Thursday.

Sanctions are also lifted against businessman Farkhad Akhmedov and Russian Armed Forces Col. Georgy Shuvayev who died in October 2022, the documents says.

The Council of the EU's decision "enters into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union," i.e. on Friday, the document says.

The Council of the EU said on Wednesday that sanctions would be lifted against four Russian citizens, but did not specify their names.

It also said that it would extend for another six months the personal sanctions against individuals suspected by the EU of "actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine."

Sanctions will continue to apply to nearly 1,800 individuals and legal entities until March 15, 2024, the Council of the EU said.

This includes travel bans on individuals, the freezing of assets, and a ban on the provision of monetary and other economic resources to sanctioned individuals and legal entities.

The EU imposed the first individual sanctions over the Ukraine situation on March 17, 2014. The list of sanctioned individuals and entities is regularly reviewed and updated, the Council of the EU said.
