Atyrau refinery shuts down some production units due to power outage

ATYRAU. Sept 13 (Interfax) - The Atyrau oil refinery had to suspend the production of some of its units on Wednesday due to a power outage.

"On September 13, 2023 at 6.45 a.m. local time, the operation of a number of production units was shut down following a power outage from JSC KEGOC [the state electricity utility]," a company press release says.

The power supply to the production units is now being restarted and the production process is being restored. The outage will not have a significant effect on the production process, the company said.

The Atyrau Refinery is one of the three largest oil refineries in Kazakhstan. It is owned primarily by KazMunayGas. The design capacity of the refinery is 5.5 million tonnes per year with a utilization rate of up to 86.4%.
