First smartphones fully produced in Russia could arrive in 2024, too early to discuss volumes - Manturov

VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 12 (Interfax) - The first Russian-made smartphones may appear next year; now, devices using domestic platforms are being assembled in China, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said.

"Several Russian manufacturers are doing this, with Russian platforms, Russian architecture, a Russian operating system. In particular, Aurora. However, for now, production is in China. Russian manufacturers have plans to produce entirely in Russia. I expect that new products should appear starting next year," he said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, answering a question about possible shipments of domestic smartphones to fill government orders.

He did not offer details regarding the appearance of completely Russian smartphones on the market: "We will not rush into these announcements for now, but will wait for statements from our manufacturers about when and in what volume they will be released."
