Oil cos, govt agree on what to do on fuel market - Putin
MOSCOW. Sept 12 (Interfax) - Russian oil product producers and the government have agreed on how they will act on the fuel market in order to stabilize the situation, President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum.
The government is now working on this issue, he said.
"What I think is that oil product producers are right, the government should have responded in time [to changes on the world oil market]. Appropriate measures were taken not that long ago to maintain parity between prices on the foreign market and the domestic market. These mechanisms were cancelled," Putin said, referring to the reduction of the fuel damper subsidy by 50% as of September.
"The government did not respond in time to price changes on the world market in connection with the growth of oil prices. But this is a controllable position. [Rosneft CEO] Igor Sechin and I were just talking yesterday. He has his own position on this score. But in general producers and the government have agreed on how they will act in the near future," Putin said.
"It is very important for us to supply agricultural producers with diesel, it was simply physically in short supply. Now physically it's available, the question is regulating prices," Putin added.
