India to propose Russia opportunities to invest rupees 'stuck' with Russian operators - Lavrov

NEW DELHI. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that he received India's assurances that it would propose opportunities to invest the rupees remaining on the accounts of Russian exporters.

"When we were at the East Asian Summit in Jakarta, we had contacts with [Indian Foreign Minister] Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, discussed bilateral issues, including yes, such problem exists, many billions of rupees have been amassed in the current situation, and they have not found their use yet," Lavrov said on Sunday at a press conference in New Delhi.

"Our Indian friends assured us that they would propose promising spheres to invest them in," he said.

Answering a question about the potential disruption of S-400 air defense systems to India, Lavrov said that all Russian-Indian agreements, including military-technical cooperation, "fully remain in force."
