Wildberries opens fourth logistics center in Belarus

MINSK. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Online retailer Wildberries has opened its fourth logistics center in Belarus to expand cooperation with local businesses, the company said in a press release.

"At the beginning of September, a new logistics center with a total area of 8,000 sq. m. was opened in Brest, making the logistics park the fourth largest facility in Belarus and the first in the western part of the country," the company says.

The new center accepts goods from platform sellers and then sorts them according to the addresses of pickup points. The company is confident that the opening of the new facility will strengthen logistics in the region, speed up delivery of orders and improve the level of service for customers, as well as create new jobs for local residents.

The report also notes the growing interest of Belarusian entrepreneurs in entering the trading platform. In July, the total number of sellers registered on the site increased to 15,400, a 30% increase over July of last year.

In addition, there was an increase in the sales of products from Belarusian entrepreneurs. In January-August 2023, sales of Belarusian products through the platform increased by 74% compared to the same period last year, to 26.9 billion Russian rubles, Wildberries said.

Wildberries is the largest online retailer in Russia, operating on the market since 2004. The geography of the company's presence covers all regions of Russia, as well as a number of other countries, including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Wildberries logistics centers were opened in the Minsk region, Minsk and Gomel. There are 910 pickup points throughout Belarus.

As reported, on September 1, the Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade of Belarus, Alexei Bogdanov, discussed the expansion of the activities of the Russian online retailer in the republic with Tatyana Bakalchuk, General Director of Wildberries.

"We are interested in the development of e-commerce, including the Wildberries platform, in Belarus. Meanwhile, the main factors for the successful operation of the marketplace are compliance with national legislation and establishing effective feedback with buyers on issues that concern them," Bogdanov said.
