Uzbek payment systems Oson and Pay Way suspend foreign money transfer services

TASHKENT. Sept 5 (Interfax) - The largest payment services in Uzbekistan, Oson and Pay Way, suspended foreign money transfer services as of Tuesday, the companies' press services said.

"Starting September 5, international transfers and payments for foreign services will be temporarily suspended. We apologize for the inconvenience. Services will be restored in the near future," the Oson press service said.

The Pay Way telegram channel also reports that transfers to international destinations will be temporarily disabled.

"The application will temporarily disable transfers to all international destinations, including from Russia and to Russia," the message says.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan instructed that these transfer destinations be temporarily disabled, the Pay Way press service said. However, payments within the country, transfers between local Uzcard and Humo money transfer systems, as well as payments for utilities and communication services are still functional in the application.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has not yet commented regarding the situation.

There are currently 52 payment systems registered in Uzbekistan.
