Gazprom gives Botas roadmap on gas hub in Turkey, creating working group up next

SOCHI. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Gazprom has given Turkey's Botas gas company a roadmap for a gas hub in Turkey, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference following talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Russia has always been a reliable and responsible gas supplier. We intend to continue to provide the Turkish economy with the inexpensive, highly efficient and environmentally friendly fuel. Moreover, we are ready to export gas in transit through Turkey to consumers in third countries, where our partners are interested in this," Putin recalled.

"It was for this purpose that it has been proposed to create a regional gas hub in Turkey. Gazprom has given Botas a draft roadmap for implementing the project. Establishing a joint working group, as well as coordinating the legal framework for operations and the system for bidding and transferring purchased gas, are on the agenda," Putin added.

As reported, Putin in October 2022 presented the initiative to lay additional gas pipelines along the bottom of the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey, as well as to create a gas hub on the EU border. The hub could become an alternative to other centers for determining the price of gas in Europe.

PJSC Gazprom reported that it was working jointly with its Turkish partners on the matter of creating a gas hub in Turkey. The Russian side presented its concept of the facility, as well as the parameters and principles for its operation.
