Kazakh president relieves Pirmatov of duties as National Bank chairman

ASTANA. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed an executive order to relieve Galymzhan Pirmatov of his duties as the Kazakh National Bank chairman, the presidential press service said.

"Galymzhan Olzhayevich Pirmatov has been relieved of duties as the chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan by a presidential order," the press service said.

Pirmatov, 51, had been in office since February 2022.

Presidential chief of staff Olzhas Bektenov said at a Senate meeting on Monday that "the president presents Timur Suleymenov for the Senate's consideration as a candidate for the National Bank chairman."

Suleymenov previously served as the minister of national economy and a member of the Eurasian Economic Commission, he said.

"Timur Suleymenov also worked as a deputy chairman of the National Bank and he is well aware of the functions and operations of the financial regulator. [...] Therefore we ask you to support the nomination of Suleymenov for National Bank chairman," Bektenov said.

The Senate confirmed Suleymenov's nomination for National Bank chairman.
