Egyptian regulator grants license to construct No. 4 power unit at El Dabaa NPP - Rosatom

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation has obtained the license to construct the No. 4 power unit at the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in Egypt, JSC AtomStroyExport (ASE), Rosatom's engineering division and the general designer and contractor of the NPP, said in a statement.

The board of directors of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) has taken the corresponding decision.

"The process to construct the El-Dabaa NPP is proceeding in full compliance with the schedule," ASE vice president Alexei Kononenko was quoted as saying in the statement.

As previously reported, Rosatom hopes to pour the "first concrete" at the fourth power unit of the El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt in November. Construction on the first three power units of the NPP is underway.

Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement on constructing Egypt's first NPP in November 2015. The engineering, procurement and construction contract for the El Dabaa NPP was signed at the end of 2016. The project calls for building four 1,200 MW generating units with VVER-1200 reactors.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2028-2029.
