Russia's Primorye and China's Dongning to rebuild cross-border bridge together

VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 30 (Interfax) - The authorities of Russia's Primorye and China's Dongning have agreed to rebuild the infrastructure of the Poltavka-Dongning border checkpoint hit by typhoons together, the Primorye Agency for International Cooperation said.

The Primorye Agency for International Cooperation head Alexei Starichkov and Dongning Deputy Mayor Shi Xiaoli have reached the agreement at a meeting on mitigating the aftermath of recent flash floods.

"We have decided to reconstruct a cross-border bridge over the Granitnaya River (near the Poltavka-Dongning motor checkpoint) and the infrastructure of the Russian and Chinese parts of the checkpoint hit by flash floods," the Agency said on Telegram.

The sides will also exchange early notifications of rising waters or water discharge in border areas of the Primorye Territory (Oktyabsky and Ussuriysk municipal districts) and the Heilongjiang province (Dongning).

Heilongjiang and Primorye were severely affected by typhoons in August and are interested in dealing with common problems, the Primorye Agency for International Cooperation quoted the meeting protocol as saying.

The Poltavka motor checkpoint sustained significant damage during flash floods and suspended operation on August 11.

The Primorye government's press service told Interfax earlier that it would take several months to repair the checkpoint.

Typhoon Khanun caused waters in the Granitnaya River to rise destroying the bridge connecting the Russian and Chinese territories.

Primorye declared a federal-level emergency on August 25 to deal with the consequences of pouring rains.
