Zelensky thanks U.S., Biden for new Ukraine assistance package

MOSCOW/WASHINGTON. Aug 30 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has thanked the United States and U.S. President Joe Biden for the new military assistance package for Ukraine.

"I am grateful to the American people, the Congress and personally President Joseph Biden for the new military assistance package for Ukraine," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky's statement on a social media.

As reported, the United States has announced a new military assistance package for Ukraine worth of $250 million, which includes various kinds of munitions, hardware, spares and personnel training.

"Today the Biden-Harris administration is announcing a new package of security assistance for Ukraine," White House spokesperson Jean-Pierre said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The new package will include additional equipment for demining, air defense missiles, ammunition for artillery and HIMARS systems, and more than three million small caliber munitions, she said.

In total, the package is worth $250 million, State Secretary Antony Blinken said in a statement.

It will include, among others, AIM-9M missiles, 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, Javelin systems and other anti-tank systems and missiles and spare parts for various types of weapon, the statement said.
