Unused UAH 1.5 bln from EIB funding to finance 140 Ukrainian reconstruction projects - commission

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - A Ukrainian interagency commission in charge of administering funds leftover from the European Investment Bank's (EIB) first tranche has recommended allocating UAH 1.5 billion for implementing 140 reconstruction projects in Ukraine's regions, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Ministry for the Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure (Reconstruction Ministry).

The sum has been left unused from the funding that the Ukrainian state budget received from the EIB in 2022. In line with the government's decision, it shall be earmarked for new budget programs.

The commission met on August 28 to consider proposals on financing 165 projects worth UAH 1.9 billion and agreed upon the allocation of funding for 140 projects complying with the established requirements.

In particular, it selected 49 projects for drafting design documents, 27 for reconstructing healthcare institutions, 19 educational institutions, 16 civil defense facilities, eight water supply and water drainage facilities, and two heat supply facilities.

The Chernigov region is the leader in terms of the number of its projects approved by the commission (40).

As reported, the Ukrainian government adopted a directive on the procedure and terms of administering the EIB's funding in the amount of UAH 4.4 billion in June 2023. The Reconstruction Ministry was designated as the main administrator of the funding in charge of allocating the subvention from the state budget to local budgets.
