Moscow Exchange to launch cash-settled futures for sugar, perpetual futures on MOEX Index in Sept

MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - The Moscow Exchange plans to begin trading cash-settled futures on Russian sugar and perpetual futures on the MOEX Index in September, the head of the exchange's derivatives market, Maria Patrikeyeva said.

"We are continuing to expand the line of perpetual futures and soon, in September, we plan to launch new perpetual futures on the MOEX Index. Index futures make it possible to participate in the movement of prices of a whole market without needing to buy individual shares and the risk of delivery of the underlying asset," Patrikeyeva told reporters.

The exchange launched perpetual futures in April 2022 and trading in them has exceeded 1 trillion rubles since then, she said.

Daily trading volume on the derivatives market is averaging more than 420 billion rubles in 2023, up 40% from 2022 but still down from 610 billion rubles per day in 2021, she said.

Retail investors account for almost 70% of trading volume on the derivatives market.
