Stepanakert asks Moscow to organize meeting with Baku reps

YEREVAN. Aug 25 (Interfax) - The state minister of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh republic, Gurgen Nersisyan, has asked Russia to organize a meeting with representatives from Azerbaijan.

"It is necessary to appeal to Russia with a demand and proposal about holding a meeting with Azerbaijan to discuss issues surrounding the situation created in Artsakh [the Armenian name for Karabakh], security problems, and the humanitarian crisis. Since no one can guarantee the physical safety of our citizens on Azerbaijani territory, this meeting could take place at the location of the Russian peacekeeping forces [in Nagorno-Karabakh], or any other safe place, with a third party involved," Nersisyan said in a video address.

Russia is capable of organizing such a meeting and its results would be publicized, he said.

"The international community, including Russia's peacekeeping forces, have failed to provide security at an adequate level and are unable to create conditions for normal life," Nersisyan said.
