Ukrainian regulator approves structure for distributing power transmission capacity with Romania, Poland

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities approved the national grid operator Ukrenergo's proposal on rules for distributing inter-state electricity transmission capacity between Ukraine and Romania and a structure for distributing electricity transmission capacity between Ukraine and Poland and between Ukraine and Romania at a meeting on Friday.

Ukrainian media reported with reference to the commission's resolution that the regulator endorsed a structure for distributing electricity transmission capacity between Poland's Rzeszow and Ukraine's Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant in the amount of 0% for yearly and monthly auctions and 100% for daily ones.

This structure was determined by Ukrenergo and agreed upon by the Polish power grid operator.

The Ukrainian regulator also endorsed a structure for distributing electricity transmission capacity for all directions between Ukraine and Romania in the amount of 35% for yearly and monthly auctions and 30% for daily ones.

This structure was also determined by Ukrenergo and agreed upon by the Romanian power grid operator.

"The decisions will help facilitate export and import transactions with electricity between Ukraine and Romania and between Ukraine and Poland, which would have a positive effect on the safety of power supply and stabilize the Ukrainian unified power system's operations," the commission said on its website following the meeting.

Ukrainian, Slovak, Hungarian, and Romanian power grid operators had met for consultations on June 17, 2022, where the Ukrainian and Romanian grid operators agreed to jointly coordinate the distribution of electricity transmission capacity between the two countries based on Ukrenergo's electronic auction platform.

The Polish power grid operator later joined the decision made at the multilateral consultations on jointly coordinating the distribution of electricity transmission capacity on Ukrainian borders based on the Joint Allocation Office electronic auction platform.

The Ukrainian and Polish grid operators agreed on a structure for distributing electricity transmission capacity between Rzeszow and the Khmelnitsky NPP at joint auctions, and the parties finalized this agreement on July 21, 2023.
