KazMunayGas, Abu Dhabi Ports Group plan joint construction of oil tankers

ASTANA. Aug 25 (Interfax) - KazMunayGas (KMG) and Abu Dhabi Ports Group plan the joint construction of oil tankers.

KMG CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev discussed prospects for increased cooperation in oil transportation by sea with Abu Dhabi Ports Group CEO Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, during his working trip to Abu Dhabi, Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company said in a press release.

The two discussed the current operations of Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions Joint Venture (CIMS), according to the press release.

"We are quite content with the fact that our cooperation with Abu Dhabi Ports Group is developing further. Today we are working towards the expansion of the pool of international companies that can use our oil transportation services in the future. In the short term, we plan to start building together tankers for crude oil transportation in the open seas and the Caspian Sea. As our fleet of tankers is expected to enlarge in the future, our joint venture CIMS may become a large player in the global maritime industry," Mirzagaliyev is quoted as saying.

In July of this year, CIMS received two new tankers, Taraz and Liwa, with a deadweight of 8,000 tonnes, which will transport Kazakh crude oil by the Caspian Sea. Today, the joint fleet of Kazakhstan's National Maritime Shipping Company KazMorTransFlot LLP and Abu Dhabi Ports Group consists of four tankers.

"We expect the delivery of another three tankers by Abu Dhabi Ports Group by the end of this year: two Aframax tankers with a deadweight of 115,000 tonnes and one Suezmax with a deadweight of 130,000 tonnes," the press release says.

Magzum Mirzagaliyev and Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi also discussed an employment program for citizens of Kazakhstan to be able to work at the facilities of Abu Dhabi Ports in the UAE and other countries.

"An agreement is being drafted by the companies in this area to provide for the employment of Kazakhstani specialists in the next five years," the press release says.

KazMunayGas and Abu Dhabi Ports Group signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at the joint development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and the North-South Transport Corridor during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to Abu Dhabi in January 2023.
