Belarus proposes using potential of SCO, BRICS to fund infrastructure projects
MINSK. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Belarus has proposed tapping the potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS to finance infrastructure projects within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"We have identified a list of priority infrastructure projects aimed at developing the transit potential [of the EAEU]. These are the East-West, North-South corridors, the Trans-Caspian route, [and] the Chinese One Belt, One Road initiative. But the question arises about the sources of funding for these projects," Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said when speaking at an extraordinary session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
"Will it only be at the national level, or will we combine our resources?" he said.
The EAEU has approved a list of infrastructure projects, but there is no decision yet on the sources of their financing, he said. "Therefore, the potential of our relations with the SCO and BRICS should also be used here," Golovchenko said.
