U.S. elections to impact support for Ukraine - Zelensky

MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - The presidential elections in the United States will influence its support for Ukraine, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.

"It is the year of electoral competitions, the year of elections. This of course will influence the support for Ukraine. The impact could certainly be both positive and negative. We, for our part, will do all we can to ensure that the support from the United States does not decrease," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky as saying at a press conference in Kiev on Wednesday.

"We are giving all of our time, all of our energy to continuously work with the United States," he said.

At the same time, Zelensky acknowledged the presence of risks related to the position of a number of Republican Party members.

"But there are lots of voices within the Republican Party that support us," he said.

Zelensky met with U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal, Lindsey Graham and Elizabeth Warren during their visit to Ukraine on Wednesday, Ukrainian media said.

"We appreciate this bicameral and bipartisan support for Ukraine," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Zelensky as saying in a social media post on Wednesday evening.

The Ukrainian president also "thanked the U.S. president, the Congress and the American people for the defense and financial assistance provided to Ukraine," Zelensky's press service said.
