BRICS leaders say committed to using national currencies in trade
JOHANNESBURG. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Leaders of the BRICS member countries have called for the more active use of national currencies in financial transactions, a declaration adopted at the end of the BRICS summit on Thursday says.
"We stress the importance of encouraging the use of local currencies in international trade and financial transactions between BRICS as well as their trading partners," the declaration said.
The BRICS leaders tasked the finance ministers and heads of national central banks to explore this opportunity and present their suggestions by the next summit.
