Ukraine gathers 20.7% of its cucurbit crop harvest

MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers had gathered by mid-August 20.7% of their planned harvest of cucurbit crops, or 50,400 tonnes, among them 38,000 tonnes of watermelons and 12,400 tonnes of melons, Ukrainian media said, citing the press service for the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

Cucurbit crops have already been harvested from 6,200 hectares, the press service said. The average yield is 81.5 hundredweights per hectare.

"The largest production and the high yield of cucurbit crops in August was recorded in the Vinnitsa region. As many as 12,600 tonnes have already been harvested in the region. The crop yield is 140 hundredweights per hectare," it said.

A large harvest of watermelons has also been gathered in the Odessa region - from an area of 1,300 hectares, the Poltava region - from 700 hectares, the Vinnitsa region - from 600 hectares, and the Dnepropetrovsk region - from 500 hectares.
