Ukraine terminates employment, social protection agreement with Belarus

MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has terminated an agreement between Ukraine and Belarus on citizens' employment and social protection, Ukrainian media said, citing MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

An explanatory note says that the agreement has been terminated because of Belarus' support for Russia.

The employment and social protection agreement was signed between Ukraine and Belarus on July 17, 1995, was ratified on April 26, 1996 and entered into force on July 16 that year. The document required an individual seeking a job to hold a work permit issued by the authorized government agency for a period of time of working for a certain employer but no longer than one year.

If the agreement is terminated, its provisions shall remain in force with regard to labor contracts signed between employees and employers until these labor contracts expire.
