Ukraine plans to open nine more crossings on border with EU

MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Ukraine plans to set up another nine crossing points on its border with European Union countries, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.

"It is the development of border infrastructure, in particular, a network of automobile border crossings. There are currently 21 of them on the border with the EU. Three of them were opened during the crisis. We plan to establish nine more and to upgrade thirteen," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying at a government meeting on Tuesday.

The largest amount of work will be carried out on the border with Poland, he said.

"It has been agreed that Ukraine will receive a low-interest loan of 160 million euros from Polish partners to upgrade roads and checkpoints and to purchase scanners," the prime minister said.
