Baku, Tashkent sign roadmap for developing cooperation in energy sector until 2026

BAKU. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have signed a roadmap for developing energy cooperation for 2023-2025.

The respective countries' energy ministers, Parviz Shahbazov and Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, have signed the corresponding document.

"Going forward, there are numerous energy projects [between the two countries], and our energy cooperation will be further strengthened," Azerbaijani Energy Minister Shahbazov wrote on social media, commenting on the signing of the document.

According to the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, the roadmap covers 14 areas, including exploration and production of hydrocarbon resources in both countries and cooperation to create a joint venture.

"According to the document, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will cooperate in the areas of renewable energy sources, reforming the energy sector, efficiently using of energy resources, energy transition, decarbonization, as well as exchanging information and experience related to hydrogen production," the ministry notes.

Moreover, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed on July 26, 2023, between JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan and JSC Azerenergy, continued cooperation between both countries' respective system operators was reflected in the roadmap as one of the main activities, the Energy Ministry adds.
