Ukrainian Border Service updates border crossing statistics

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The number of people who entered Ukraine from August 12 to 18, 2023 was 12,000 higher than the number of those who departed the country, compared to 26,000 a week before and 36,000 two weeks before, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the State Border Service's social media post.

Thus, the number of people crossing into Ukraine has been exceeding the number of those leaving the country for the fifth week in a row.

The number of people who departed Ukraine between August 12 and 18 increased to 372,000 from 362,000, and the number of those entering Ukraine decreased to 384,000 from 388,000 compared to the previous week, the service said.

The number of vehicles that crossed Ukraine's western borders increased to 144,000 from 141,000, and the number of vehicles cleared to carry humanitarian aid declined to 776 from 780 last week.

According to the United Nations Refugee Agency's data as of August 15, the number of Ukrainian refugees across the world was estimated at 6.268 million (28,000 more than a week before), including 5.901 million in European countries outside of Ukraine (19,000 more).

Inside Ukraine, there were 5.088 million internally displaced people as of the end of May, according to the UN.
