Zelensky accepts credentials from new ambassadors to Ukraine
MOSCOW. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky accepted credentials from the recently appointed ambassadors of six countries - Germany, Indonesia, Sweden, Chili, Colombia, and Peru - at a ceremony held in the St. Sophia of Kiev National Reserve, Ukrainian media said, citing the presidential press service.
At a meeting with German Ambassador Martin Jaeger, Zelensky emphasized the importance of the comprehensive support Germany has been extending to Ukraine, the press service said. The parties also highly assessed the progress made in implementing the agreements reached during the Ukrainian president's visit to Germany in May 2023.
When meeting with Swedish Ambassador Martin Oberg, Zelensky also praised Stockholm's support for Kiev.
"We are very grateful to Sweden, to your society. You really help Ukraine a lot," he said.
Zelensky also thanked the Swedish government for its recent adoption of the strategy for recovery and reform cooperation with Ukraine for 2023-2027.
"Vladimir Zelensky expressed hope that Sweden would support the decision to launch negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU as soon as this year and thanked Stockholm for joining the G7 Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine adopted in Vilnius," the press service said.
