Yield of early grains in fields of Ukraine's Kernel holding is 70% higher than last year

MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Kernel, one of the largest agricultural holdings in Ukraine, is completing the harvesting of early grain crops with a record yield, Ukrainian media reported, citing the press service of the group.

"This year, the yield of winter wheat, depending on the region where the cluster is located, ranged from 5.8 tonnes to 7.3 tonnes per 1 ha. The weighted average yield is almost 70% higher than last year," the report says.

The company allocated 70,000 hectares for early grain crops.

Programs to bring biological concepts to agriculture are being introduced in post-harvest areas, Kernel said. Cover crops have already been sown on 22,000 hectares to support biodiversity and improve soil fertility. Agronomy departments continue testing and researching the effectiveness of various cover crop mixes to evaluate their impact on soil microbiological activity and field health.

Kernel is a producer and exporter of sunflower oil. It is also engaged in the cultivation and sales of agricultural products.

The largest owner of Kernel is Ukrainian businessman Andrey Verevsky (through Namsen Ltd).
