Sixty-seven Russians change sporting nationality in 2022-2023

MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Sixty-seven Russians have changed their sporting nationality in the past two years, the Russian Sports Ministry's press service said.

"According to available information, 67 athletes of national teams changed their sporting nationality in 2022 and 2023," the statement said.

"Forty-seven of them are representatives of summer Olympic sports, eight are representatives of winter Olympic sports and 12 are representatives of non-Olympic sports," the statement said.

In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended Russians and Belarusians from competing in international tournaments over the situation in Ukraine.

On March 28, the IOC recommended that international federations authorize Russians and Belarusians to compete on the condition that they do not support the special military operation and have no relation to military sports societies. The IOC did not provide an invitation to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, either.
