Kazakhstan to extend export ban on scrap metals by another six months

ALMATY. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan is set to extend the ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals by another six months.

The draft order will be available online for public discussion until August 24.

Non-ferrous scrap metal and waste cannot be exported by any kind of transport for six months, while ferrous scrap metal and waste cannot be exported by road or rail.

"The purpose of the order is to increase supply of scrap metal for domestic enterprises suffering from a shortage and combat the illegal trade in scrap metals," the draft order says.

Kazakhstan's ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal and waste has been in effect since May 6, 2022.
