Zelensky invites patriarch of Constantinople to visit Ukraine

MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has met with Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, representative of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.

Meeting with Metropolitan Emmanuel, Zelensky "noted that the visit of the Metropolitan was a very important signal of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people from the Ecumenical Patriarchate," Ukrainian media quoted the presidential office as saying in a statement.

"I greatly appreciate the dialogue we continued with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during my recent visit to Turkey. It was very important," Zelensky said.

He asked Metropolitan Emmanuel to convey his invitation to the ecumenical patriarch to visit Ukraine.

Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon extended greetings and words of support from Patriarch Bartholomew to the Ukrainian president, it said.
