Zaporozhye NPP 4th unit goes into cold shutdown after detecting technical flaws

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Personnel of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Energodar are preparing for a cold shutdown of the fourth reactor unit after detecting a steam generator problem, the plant administration said on Telegram on Thursday.

"Plant personnel have detected leakiness of the third steam generator pipes while operating the fourth unit of the Zaporozhye NPP," the statement said.

It was decided to put the reactor unit into a cold shutdown for the purpose of smooth operation during the fall and winter season and serviceability of the equipment, it said.

"A hot shutdown of the sixth reactor unit is being considered to supply the Zaporozhye NPP with steam," the statement said.

A hot shutdown of the fourth reactor unit was reported on July 25 after the fifth reactor unit was cooled off for scheduled maintenance.
