Zelensky signs into law another European integration bill

MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has signed into law a bill on amending the Ukrainian Customs Code as regards the determination of origin of goods in line with the European Union's Customs Code and the implementation of Ukraine's free trade agreements.

Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Verkhovna Rada's website that the document signed by the president was returned to the parliament on August 9.

The document was drawn up in line with the provisions of an annex on bringing the customs legislation into line with the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement as regards the identification of non-preferential origin of goods during their imports to or exports from Ukraine.

The adoption of the legislation is expected to streamline export and import transactions and their administration through implementing alternative preferential rules of origin stipulated by the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention on preferential rules of origin. This should also help import a broader range of Ukrainian goods to European Union countries and goods from those countries to Ukraine at the lowest possible or zero duty rates.

The legislation also sets requirements for transactions with such goods and provides for a list of documents that businesses need to confirm the placement of goods under customs control in transit countries.

The Rada passed the legislation on July 14.
