Ukraine expanding boundaries of Ust-Dunaisk seaport for roadside transshipment of grain

MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Specialists of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) have launched organizational and management efforts to arrange roadside transshipment of grain cargo in waters off the Ust-Dunaisk seaport, Ukrainian media said, citing USPA head Yury Litvin's statement circulated by the authority's press service.

For the purpose of increasing the volume of cargo handling at the seaports of the Danube region, the Ukrainian government on August 4 introduced amendments into its October 7, 2009 resolution titled "On the boundaries of the water area of the Ust-Dunaisk seaport", the press service said.

The document was supplemented with new geographical coordinates for the location of anchorages near the mouth of the Bystre, to organize roadside transshipment of grain cargo from the seaports of Ust-Dunaisk and Izmail to Panamax-type vessels.

The geographical coordinates for this location of anchorages for roadside transshipment will be valid for the period of martial law, and for three months after it is suspended or lifted. The government has not yet published the decision containing these coordinates.

As reported, the Ukrainian Grain Association forwarded requests to the government in the spring and summer of 2023 to organize roadside transshipment of grain cargo by all seaports of the Danube region and to grant the Danube River the status of an E-80-09 inland waterway in line with the European Agreement on Main Inland Waterway of International Importance.
