Ukrainian hydropower plants generate nearly 50% more electricity than planned in past day - ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Ukrainian hydropower plants generated 47% more electricity than planned in the last 24 hours, Ukrainian media reported, quoting the Energy Ministry.

The ministry said in its daily update on social media that the extensive maintenance and repair campaign at thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants was ongoing.

According to the ENTSO-E website, electricity imports rose 11.4% on Tuesday to 7,996 MWh, including 7,757 MWh from Slovakia, up from 6,872 MWh on Monday, and 421 MWh from Moldova, up from 300 MWh. Electricity imports are up 150% from Sunday.

Some consumers have been cut off due to bad weather. A storm caused outages in 140 settlements in the Volyn, Kiev, Sumy and Chernigov regions, but most of all the Sumy and Chernigov regions, where 63 and 60 settlements, respectively, were left without electricity.

"In general, more than over 61,000 consumers were reconnected during the day. Most of them are in the Ternopol, Khmelnytsky, Sumy and Rovno regions, which suffered outages due to bad weather," the ministry said.

As a result of technical disruptions, some consumers in the Kyiv-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region were left without electricity.

More than 100 consumers in Kherson who had been cut off due to the Kakhovka hydropower plant disaster were reconnected - 11,300 consumers remain without electricity in the city.

The Energy Ministry said on August 5 that Energoatom had completed maintenance of another 1,000 MW nuclear power unit 15 days ahead of schedule. Ukrenergo, in its update on Monday, said one unit went back into service on Friday, August 4, and maintenance began at another nuclear power plant unit on Saturday, August 5.
