FESCO launches intermodal route from Belarus to India, China via St. Petersburg

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - FESCO Transport Group (parent company - Far Eastern Shipping Company , DVMP) has organized a new intermodal container route from Belarus to India, Vietnam and China via St. Petersburg, the company said in a statement.

The initial stage includes rail transportation from Vitebsk to St. Petersburg to Avtovo port station. At the next stage, containers are reloaded onto FESCO vessels and proceed via the group's regular deep-sea sea lines to the Indian port of Nava Sheva and Chinese ports of Zhizhao, Lianyungang, Shanghai, Ningbo and Yantian.

The transit time of the whole intermodal route is about 50 days. The route includes return loading to St. Petersburg. In addition, the cargo can also be delivered to the Vietnamese port of Haiphong and other countries of Southeast Asia with reloading in the port of Ningbo.

The first container train with lumber (80 TEU), departed from Vitebsk on June 20 and arrived in St. Petersburg on June 22, from there the shipment departed by FESCO ship on June 30. The expected date of arrival of containers to the port of destination Shanghai is August 9.

FESCO Transportation Group is a major Russian port operator with railroad and logistics business. It manages a fleet of more than 135,000 TEU of containers and a fleet of fitting of more than 10,000 fitting platforms. The group's fleet includes more than 30 vessels operated primarily on its own sea lines.
