Warsaw seeks good relations with Ukraine - Polish Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax) - The Polish Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador and informed him of Warsaw's expectations with regard to Ukraine.

"Poland wants good relations with Ukraine, and these relations must be based on mutual respect and understanding of national interests," Ukrainian media quoted the Polish Foreign Ministry's press service as saying in a statement.

The ministry called for avoiding remarks and acts that are detrimental to good relations.

"Poland expects Ukraine to be ready to take into account our position on the protection of Polish agriculture and on other issues. And the Ukrainian ambassador was informed of this position today," it said.

Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki had earlier been invited to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry over remarks made by Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau at the Chancellery of the Polish President.

Speaking on Poland's TVP radio earlier, Przydacz said Kiev had received substantial support from Warsaw and "should begin to value the role that Poland has played for Ukraine in recent months and years." The Polish Foreign Ministry, in turn, summoned the Ukrainian ambassador in Warsaw.
