Zelensky hopeful Ukraine-Poland relations not to be spoiled

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Ukraine appreciates the support it has been receiving from Poland, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.

"We will not allow any political instants to spoil the relations between the Ukrainian and Polish peoples, and emotions should definitely cool down," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Zelensky as saying in a social media post on Tuesday.

"We greatly appreciate the historical support of Poland, which together with us has become a real shield of Europe from sea to sea. And there cannot be a single crack in this shield," the Ukrainian president said.

As reported earlier, Polish Ambassador in Kiev Bartosz Cichocki was invited to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry over remarks made by Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau at the Chancellery of the Polish President.

The ambassador was informed that statements alleging that the Ukrainians are not grateful enough for Poland's help are untrue and unacceptable, Ukrainian media reported with reference to Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko's commentary.

"We are convinced that Ukrainian-Polish friendship is much more profound than political expediency. Politics should not call into question mutual understanding and durability of relations between our peoples," the ministry said.

Speaking on Poland's TVP radio earlier, Przydacz said Kiev had received substantial support from Warsaw and "should begin to value the role that Poland has played for Ukraine in recent months and years."
