Erdogan speaks for prompt signing of peace treaty between Baku, Yerevan

BAKU. July 31 (Interfax) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken for the prompt signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He said that at a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Ankara on Monday.

"During the meeting, where the normalization process of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations was also discussed, President Erdogan underlined that the immediate opening of the Zangezur Corridor and the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement as soon as possible are essential for the normalization process," the Turkish presidential administration's directorate of communications said in a statement.

In the meeting with Bayramov, Erdogan also noted the need to continue efforts to increase the volume of mutual trade between Azerbaijan and Turkey to the planned $15 billion, emphasizing that it is in the interests of both countries to act together and to fully cooperate on energy and transport.

Having noted the significance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Erdogan emphasized the need for their more effective use.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, during the meeting Bayramov and the Turkish president exchanged opinions on bilateral and multilateral relations and events taking place in the region and in the world.
