Ukraine receives latest U.S. grant of $1.25 bln through World Bank to support budget

MOSCOW. July 31 (Interfax) - Ukraine on Monday received another $1.25 billion grant from the United States through the World Bank's Global Procurement Partnership (GPP) Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF), Ukrainian media reported, citing a Finance Ministry press release.

"Non-repayable financial assistance from the U.S. is an extremely important element in supporting Ukraine's government budget. The latest grant will assist the Ukrainian government in reimbursing priority social and humanitarian spending," Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko was quoted as saying in the press release.

The Finance Ministry clarifies that Ukraine has already received $8.45 billion in direct budget support in the form of grants from the U.S. in 2023, and the government's budget has received $20.4 billion in grant funds from the U.S. since February 2022.

Ukraine's Finance Ministry previously reported that the government budget as of July 21 had received funding totaling $23.6 billion from international partners, with a requirement of $42 billion for the year. The government budget received $32.1 billion last year from international partners.

Additionally, Ukraine's budget on July 21 received 1.5 billion euros of the sixth tranche of European Union macro-financial assistance and $1.5 billion through the World Bank Trust Fund, which the Japanese government has guaranteed.
