Baltic states have sovereign right to use their ports to export Ukrainian grain - Peskov

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - Moscow believes that it is the Baltic states' sovereign right to use their ports for exporting Ukrainian grain, but stresses that these routes must not be used for military purposes.

"It is a sovereign right of these states, and there is hardly anything for us to assess here. But it is highly important to us that various delivery channels must not be used by the Kiev regime for military purposes and for the purposes of staging terrorist attacks on our territory. And we will continue to counter that," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Tuesday after being asked to comment on reports that Lithuania has proposed using Baltic ports for the export of Ukrainian grain.

Journalists also asked Peskov about Moscow's attitude toward United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for Russia to return to the Black Sea Grain Initiative in light of "his latest proposal".

"Indeed, Mr. Guterres' letter offered a certain plan of action and a promise that the Russian part of these agreements could be fulfilled at some distant point in the future. Unfortunately, it is currently impossible to return to this deal, because it is not being honored. It de facto has never been fulfilled. That is why, it is impossible," he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made it clear that Russia will be ready to immediately renew the deal "as soon as it is fulfilled," Peskov said.
