Russia planning to export alfalfa and cherries to Vietnam

MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - Russia is going to export alfalfa and cherries to Vietnam.

This issue and others were discussed during a video conference with colleagues from the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Development of Vietnam, Rosselkhoznadzor said. They discussed issues related to the mutual supply of plant products.

The Vietnamese experts will soon send their phytosanitary requirements for alfalfa and cherries to Rosselkhoznadzor for further study with regard to Russia supplying these products.

Rosselkhoznadzor also expressed concern over the detection of quarantine objects in some plant products imported from Vietnam. "A polyphagous humpback fly was found on packaging for Vietnamese tea, and a shipment of Vietnamese guava was infected by a Mediterranean fruit fly," the service said.

The Russian side proposed to look at the possibility of organizing a Rosselkhoznadzor field inspection trip to Vietnam to acquaint itself with the country's system of phytosanitary certification, and to audit enterprises involved in the production and export of plant products.
