Failure in Odessa region's main networks behind power outage in city - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - The transmission system operator of the Ukrenergo national energy company (NEC) has said that a failure in the Odessa region's main networks, the causes of which are being looked into, was behind the forced use of temporary emergency power outages in a number of Odessa districts on Monday morning.

The Ukrainian media reported, citing Ukrenergo's message on social media, that a substantial number of damages to the energy infrastructure have lowered the reliability of the networks, which affects the reliability of power supply to consumers.

As of mid-day, the consumption restrictions are still in place, the statement said.

On Monday, as the ENTSO-E website said, Ukraine's energy system should receive 1,950 MWh (13.5% more than on Sunday) from Slovakia, which is supplied from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with a capacity of up to 350 MW (the maximum capacity distributed by NEC), and also, as Ukrenergo said at night from 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m., there will be imports from Moldova of up to 6 MW (data on Moldova are not displayed on the ENTSO-E website for a long time).

There is no export of electricity.

On Ukrenergo's orders, emergency blackouts have been taking place in parts of the Kievsky and Hajibeysky districts of Odessa since Monday morning, the DTEK energy holding company said.

The Ukrainian Energy Ministry noted that due to a number of technological failures, including a short circuit, in the equipment of the transmission system operator in the Odessa region, a 330 kV power substation was cut off from power supply, leaving the Odessa thermal power plant without electricity supply and 124,000 consumers without electricity at the same time.
