Ukrainian electricity exports to Slovakia fail on first day after its resumption - ENTSO-E

MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - Electricity exports to Slovakia, which were resumed by the Ukrenergo national energy company since July 23, failed to take place on that day, Ukrainian media reported with reference to data on the website of the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E).

Despite the booking of 10 MW of interstate cross-section capacity from the Ukrainian side and 40 MW from the Slovak side for six hours of supply from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the volume of exports amounted to 0 MWh, the website said.

Moreover, according to the data on the Ukrenergo tender platform, the company, having held on July 21 the first auction for capacity allocation for export with delivery on July 23 after a long break, did not offer traders a cross-section for export either on July 24 or on July 25 (auctions take place two days before delivery).

At the same time, electricity continues to be imported from Slovakia with 2,554 MWh on Saturday, up almost 40% from Friday, and 1,717 MWh on Sunday, down 32.7% from Saturday.

As reported, Ukrenergo on July 21 announced the resumption of export auctions to Slovakia, the first of which was with the delivery date of July 23, noting that the company had signed an agreement with Slovak transmission system operator SEPS defining the procedure for conducting and allocating funds from auctions for access to interstate interconnectors."

Prior to this, on July 12, the Ukrainian National Commission Regulating the Energy and Utilities Sector (NKREKU) agreed on the procedure for distributing the revenue from managing the restrictions between the transmission system operators (TSOs) of Ukraine and Slovakia, which was presented by Ukrenergo.

It was determined that the revenue obtained by SEPS and Ukrenergo based on the results of capacity allocation auctions is distributed between the Slovak and Ukrainian operators in a 50:50 ratio. Prior to that, only the Ukrainian TSO yielded funds from the sale of the cross-section under an agreement between the operators.

At the first auction for the distribution of capacity for export to Slovakia that took place on July 21, as of July 23, 10 MW, which is 5% of the offer, out of the 200 MW offered by Ukrenergo for each of the six hours of the day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., were booked. They were booked by only one trader, TES LLC.

Accordingly, the section price is equal to 0 UAH/MWh. The Slovak operator allocated 40 MW each for the specified hours.

The market noted that the first auction after reaching agreements with the Slovak transmission system operator SEPS falls on a weekend, when both consumption and the price of electricity fall, which is disadvantageous for Ukrainian exporters. Traders were expected to become more active with the start of the workweek.
