Ukraine's Rada specific committee drops requirement to show English-language films in their original language from English language bill

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - The Humanitarian Committee of the Verkhovna Rada has unanimously decided to support a presidential bill on the English language with all regulations on movies and television removed from it, Ukrainian media reported, citing MP Vladimir Vyatrovich.

The bill would drop all regulations that would reduce the use of the Ukrainian language on television and in film distribution, in particular, the requirement to show English-language films in the movie theaters in the original language, the website of the political force that Vyatrovich represents in the parliament said.

It was also decided to remove from the bill amendments to the law on cinematography, amendments to the law on the state language in terms of cinema, as well as amendments to the law on media to lower the quota of Ukrainian-language programs.
