Sberbank mulls opening branch in Bangladesh, in talks with local central bank

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - Sberbank , Russia's largest lender is considering opening a branch in Bangladesh and is holding negotiations with the country's Central Bank, local news outlet bdnews24.com reported.

Sberbank has held two rounds of talks with Bangladesh's Central Bank, bdnews24.com said.

"Sberbank is studying all opportunities and formats for providing banking services at the request of Russian clients that do business with companies in Bangladesh," the bank's first deputy CEO, Anatoly Popov told reporters through the lender's press service.

Sberbank secured a permit from India's regulator in the fall of 2022 to open another branch in the country, in Mumbai. The bank already has a branch in New Delhi. Sberbank also has plans to open a branch in China in addition to its representative office.
