Association of oil companies created in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. July 19 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's independent oil producing and refining companies have created a professional association, PetroMining, the newly established organization said in a press release on Wednesday.

"PetroMining will represent, promote, and protect the interests of independent mineral resource companies, mainly oil producing and refining companies. We are not seeking any sort of protectionism, but would like all market players to be able to enjoy transparent, fair, and equal conditions, thus allowing them to develop and operate effectively. One company may not be heard, but a whole association will be," Sayat Boranbekov, head of PetroMining, was quoted as saying.

According to PetroMining, there are over 75 private oil companies operating in Kazakhstan, accounting for about 20% of the country's total oil output and 17% of oil exports.

PetroMining will hold its first congress in early August, during which the participants are expected to discuss current problems and develop proposals that would be submitted to the government for consideration.
