Zelensky, Tanaka discuss priorities of JICA's activities in Ukraine

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has met with President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka, who arrived on a visit to Ukraine.

Ukrainian media reported, citing the presidential press service that Zelensky and Tanaka discussed the priorities of the JICA agency's activities in Ukraine at the meeting. "In particular, the president noted Japan's involvement in the production of demining equipment, the development of a network of rehabilitation centers for veterans and military personnel, as well as the production of energy equipment," the statement said.

The Ukrainian president stressed the importance of further implementation of the initiated infrastructure projects with the involvement of the JICA agency, namely the retrofitting of the Bortnitsa aeration station in Kiev.

"The parties focused on the prospects of attracting Japan's technological capabilities for Ukraine's post-crisis recovery in such areas as the production of energy equipment, lithium batteries, hydrogen and vehicles," the press service said.

Zelensky thanked for JICA's readiness to join actively the preparations for the Conference on Ukraine's Recovery, which will take place in Tokyo in early 2024.

The financial support received by Ukraine from the JICA has exceeded $1.1 billion since the crisis broke out.
