Zelensky calls on Seoul to join G7 Declaration in support of Ukraine

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has called on the Republic of Korea to join the Group of Seven Declaration in support of Kiev.

The Ukrainian media reported that he said this at a briefing after talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in Kiev last Saturday.

South Korea "provides us with significant political, security, and humanitarian support," he said.

Zelensky thanked South Korea for its "readiness to support our educational system."

He also called on South Korea "to show its leadership in setting up rehabilitation centers in Ukraine."

For his part, Yoon Suk-yeol said that South Korea would increase military and humanitarian aid supplies to Ukraine in 2023, Ukrainian media noted.

"We provided bulletproof vests, helmets, and other necessary ammunition last year. We hope that this year the level of our assistance will be much greater," he said.

"Last year, the Korean government allocated $100 million to support Ukraine. This year, this support will amount to $150 million," Yoon Suk-yeol said.

"We also plan to increase aid to Ukraine to restore the education system. Last year [...] we decided to help rebuild destroyed schools. We would also like to provide Ukraine with support for future generations with the help of the two presidential scholarships," Yoon Suk-yeol said.
