Ukrenergo carries out unique power line repairs

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - Ukrenergo has carried out unique repairs on one of its trunk power transmission lines, making it possible to supply uninterrupted power to several million consumers.

Ukrainian media, citing the company, said specialists managed to replace the damaged part of a pylon at a height of 32 meters without having to replace it entirely.

"First, they dismantled the broken one. Then a new structure 8 meters long weighing 1.4 tonnes, which was assembled on the ground, was raised and connected to the pylon at a height of 32 meters," the company said.

"The whole pylon would usually be replaced, but we found a creative solution and replaced part of it. This reduced the repair time significantly, and we quickly got the line working again quickly. Also, we saved about UAH 2 million by replacing only the damaged element and not the whole pylon," it said.

The company hired contractors to carry out the work.

"This is a unique effort requiring a lot of skill, accuracy and professionalism," Ukrenergo said.
