Ukrainian trade deficit widens 9-fold to nearly $9 bln in 5M

MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - Ukraine's trade deficit widened 9-fold to $8.975 billion in January-May 2023 from $1.004 billion in the same period of last year, Ukrainian media quoted the State Statistics Service as saying on Friday.

Goods exports fell 15.6% year-on-year to $16.448 billion, while imports rose 24.1% to $25.324 billion.

Seasonally adjusted exports fell 0.8% to $3.221 billion in May compared with April while imports rose 2.8% to $5.488 billion. The seasonally adjusted trade deficit widened to $2.267 billion from $2.093 billion.

The foreign trade coverage ratio fell to 0.65 in 5M 2023, from 0.95 a year previously.

Ukraine traded with 223 countries.
